The first trailer for the live-action adaptation ofPinocchiowas released last week, bringing to life aDisneyclassic. The CGI in the upcoming film has received a lot of praise from viewers, with many stating that the young puppet looks like he was pulled straight out of the original animation. To prove the similarities, one fan named Matt Skuta took it upon himself to create a side-by-side video that compares scenes from both films, and it is quite stunning.
Pinocchiois a tale as old as time and has transcended generations and retained its popularity. When news of its live-action adaptation broke, many were skeptical of the puppet’s appearance. But, based onthe firstPinocchiotrailer, not only has the upcomingDisneyproject captured the essence of the story, but it also managed to adapt the original quite closely. The fan-made video puts together exact replicas of scenes that were first seen in the 1940 classic, which seem to have been rehashed for the upcoming film.

The video shared on YouTube uses the audio from thePinocchiotrailer and combines the new video with scenes from the original. “This video is intended to illustrate the variety of choices possible when creating a motion picture based on a written work and its remake,” reads the caption. From the first scene of Pinocchio sitting in Geppetto’s workshop, the similarities are uncanny as the video progresses.Tom Hanks brings Geppetto to lifebeautifully, whereas the CGI used to create Benjamin Evan Ainsworth’s Pinocchio is almost immaculate. Many of the scenes are replicated wonderfully, including the moment where the Blue Fairy brings the puppet to life.
As the video continues, it is fascinating to watch the similarities in both films. From Jiminy Cricket’s cheerful persona to the red fox’s deception, all the way to the tiny details that the creative team kept in mind when bringing Figaro the Cat and Cleo the Goldfish to life, they all combine to make the video such a fun watch. The scenes in the amusement park are slightly different, but that’s probably because the latest technology allows for better graphics. Themoments in thePinocchioremakeare more colorful and vibrant as compared to the original.
