During aninterview with Wiredin April 2019, game designer Mark Cerny first dropped the news of thePlayStation 5, which is slated for a release later this year. In order to truly make an informed decision on whether or not to drop the cash so soon, gamers must sift through all the rumors being thrown around concerning this new system. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of the rumors so exciting that we couldn’t even look at our PS4s without a little stank eye, along with some other rumors that don’t really matter in the long-run.
15We Hope: 8K Gaming Is Supported
From the PS4 to the PS5, an improvement in graphics is expected. Rumors have circulated that the PS5’s 8K TV support will bring more detailed textures to the screen, getting the most out of modern displays.
Hopefully, these textures don’t drop in quality mid-gameplay for the sake of processing speed, as has happened so many times in the past.

14We Hope: It Supports 4K Blu-Ray
The inclusion of Blu-ray has been a feature in Sony’s home gaming consoles since the PS3, making it a purchase that even film lovers didn’t mind. According to rumors, the PS5 will support 4K Blu-ray, meaning the phrase “Blu-ray and play” may someday be able to compete with “Netflix and chill.”
13We Don’t Care: That The Controller May Not Have A Light Bar
The light at the top of the PS4’s controller is a unique aesthetic design. For some games, the light even changes color depending on what’s going on. When playingGrand Theft Auto V,players might have noticed that the light flashes blue and red when the cops are tailing them.
This is a cool detail, though it isn’t necessary. Given the rest of the features that have been rumored for the PS5’s controller, a light bar won’t be missed all that much.

12We Hope: Loading Times Have Been Decreased
Nothing frustrates players more than insanely long load times. What good is the promise of an expansive open world if players have to spend much of their time staring at a monotone loading screen? Fortunately, the PS5 may make this a distant memory.

In a recent test, it took 8 seconds for the PS4 to load a level fromMarvel’s Spider-Man, but it took the PS5 less than a second! In games likeSkyrimandAssassin’s Creedthat boast truly expansive open worlds, players will be able to get the most out of each playthrough.
11We Hope: It Will Include Updated VR
Gaming is nowhere near the kind of virtual reality depicted in shows likeSword Art Online, enabling players to transport their consciousness into a video game. That doesn’t mean the industry is not making strides. The PSVR 2, which is rumored to be the PS5’s virtual reality component, is comprised of a wireless headset with built-in cameras and a transparency mode so that players can see what’s actually going on in the real world without having to take the headset off.
It’s also been rumored that the PSVR 2 will be easier for glasses wearers to use, meaning we’ll see a sharp decline in the number of spectacled spectators in VR gaming.

10We Don’t Care: If You Can Install/Remove Parts Of Games
While it is pretty interesting that players might be able to install just the single-player portion of a game before the multiplayer portion, it is not the end of the world if this doesn’t turn out to be the case.

Most players will probably download both at some point, so why not get it all out of the way the first time around?
9We Hope: It’s Actually Around $500
Many have theorized that the PS5 will cost around $500 during its initial release. Considering all of these additional features that might be included, that price range sounds almost too good to be true.
Hopefully, the actual price isn’t much higher, given the fact that owners will need all the money they can get for the latest PS5 releases to go along with their new consoles.

8We Hope: It Features Powerful Cross-Generational Play
According to rumors, the PS5 will feature cross-generational gameplay that will not only allow players to play some of their favorite PS4 games but their favorite PS1 and PS2 games as well! According to PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan, players might even be able to port data across systems.
This means that you could start yourGod of Warplaythrough on your brand new PS5 and pick up right where you left off on your friend’s PS4. This powerful cross-generational play is not only unprecedented but will allow gamers to lose themselves in a rabbit hole known as “nostalgia.”

7We Don’t Care: If You Can Play Online With PS4 Players
In the first few months of the PS5’s release, as games are made for both the PS4 and its successor, players will enjoy the option of playing with their friends who haven’t yet purchased a PS5.
As the PS5’s exclusive library swells, more players will be leaving the PS4’s online communities for ones that promise a better multiplayer experience.

6We Hope: There Is A New & Improved Controller
The PS5 may come with its own controller that includes haptic feedback, meaning that a character falling to the ground will feel different than one bumping into a wall. The controllers are also rumored to feature adaptive triggers incorporated into L2 and R2. The resistance of these triggers will differ depending on whatever action they’re being used for.
