In addition to playable demos of the then-upcomingPokemon Gold and Silvergames, Nintendo offered 100,000 eventgoers the chance to transfer Mew to their game cartridges from a special machine.
Nearly 27 years after the Space World 1997 Mews were first handed out, a Reddit user by the handle of SwimJumpy8678 has successfullyimported one intoPokemon Scarlet and Violet. They shared a YouTube video from Porygon’s Pokedex explaining the process, which was once thought to be impossible until another player discovered aPokemon Bluecartridge with the rare Mew.
To transfer the Mew from the old game toPokemon Home, one requires a Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color link cable, a Japanese copy ofPokemon Blue, a card dumper, a Flash card, and all of the games and hardware needed to transfer from Generation 3 to Generation 7.
Transferring 1997 Mew to Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a Massive Process
Once everything is gathered, the player downloads aPokemon Bluesave filewith the rare Mew stored, which was preserved online by dedicated fans. After the file is downloaded, it must be renamed and transferred into the card dumper. From there, the player uses modder Lorenzoone’s Gen 3 to Gen X trading program to transfer the Mew from the old Gen 1 game to their Gen 3 cartridge. After raising the Mew’s level in-game, its trainer installs the Gen 3 to Gen X program onto their Flash card and runs it on their Game Boy Advance, which they will use to trade with the Game Boy Color.
Oncethe Mew is tradedfrom Generation 3 to Generation 4, all that remains is for the player to simply trade it across various games and programs until it is inPokemon Home, where it can be sent toPokemon Scarlet and Violet. SwimJumpy8678 was able to use this method to transfer not only the Space World 1997 Mew, but the ones offered at other old Nintendo events, ensuring that practically any version ofPokemon’s playful Psychic can be brought into the modern games.
