OnePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer has discovered a potential solution for the corrupting save data error issue that is currently occurring in the game. Ever since its release, the games have been plagued with numerous problems, from performance issues that somePokemon Scarlet and Violetplayers haven’t seen any improvement onto fairly bizarre glitches and bugs that are hampering the entire gameplay experience.

After many problems withPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s performance, Game Freak has been attempting to put out fixes to make the game run better. What players have found out withPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s recent 1.2.0 update, which was meant to fix issues and add new features, is that it has instead introduced a dangerous save corrupting error bug. This bug began to occur with players that have attempted to connect their save files withPokemon GO, one of the newest features added in the latest update. When they tried to use the postcard feature to obtain Vivillon, or even pre-order the upcoming DLC and earn its bonus, it would report a corrupted save file, making it unreadable. They’d have to either delete and reinstall the game if it was digital or play on a new Switch profile.

However, it seems there might be a solution for the error. Posting to r/PokemonScarletandViolet, user TragGaming posted a fix for the corrupted save data. In the post, the gamer first warns that this is specifically for the “Save data is corrupted” error, not the “Save data not recognized please turn off Nintendo Switch” error, and that they should make sure the Switch playing the game is the primary Switch. Then, they say to make sure their game ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetisn’t just crashing, which has been a problem for some players. Next, they say to start a different account or use a different one already available on the Switch, then to play a new save file on this other account to the point the player can save, then close the game soon after saving and switch back to the main account. By loading into thePokemongame there, the player should be able to log in and play as normal.

They reported that this has worked for them on three different saves across two different Switches, but they have no clue what causes it to work or even why the data gets corrupted in the first place. Many players have been waiting for a fix like this, as the bug has caused players to losehundreds of hours ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetsave data to erasure.

As of now, there is no news from Game Freak if there is going to be an official fix for the issue. All players can do is hope that an official fix comes out soon before thenext Tera Raid hitsPokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetare available now for Nintendo Switch.
