With every newPokemongame comes new Pokedex entries for new and existing Pokemon. While it’s always exciting to discover new Pokemon, the inclusion of Pokemon from previous generations is what keeps fans coming back - and the promise of newinformation and lore about these beloved Pokemon.

Given that many returning Pokemon are from many generations ago, it’s understandable that there’s some repetition in information. Pokemon from more recent games likePokemon Sword and Shieldare still largely a mystery. While many have been omitted fromPokemon Scarlet and Violet, here are the best new Pokedex entries for existing Pokemon.
8Corviknight
Corviknight can’t serve as a taxi service in Paldea because the Pokémon’s natural predators will attack it while it flies, endangering the customer.
With its inclusion in the Paldean Pokedex, Corviknight has lost a joband gained an enemy. Tinkaton, a Gen 9 Fairy/Steel type has it out for Corviknight, as ‘it knocks rocks into the sky with its hammer, aiming for flying Corviknight’. The reason Tinkaton has it out for Corviknight specifically is unknown, especially since there are many other flying Pokemon it could aim for.
Regardless, Tinkaton’s grudge has cost Corviknight its job as the flying taxi service in Paldea. Eagle-eyed fans will have noticed that Corviknight has been replaced by Squawkability, a Gen 9 Pokemon native to Paldea.
7Sinistea
The soul of someone who died alone possessed some leftover tea. This Pokémon appears in hotels and houses.
Sinistea’s updated Pokedex entry provides some heartbreaking information about the Black Tea Pokemon. Many of the ghost Pokemon have similar Dex entries due to the nature of the type, but it’s always chilling to learn more about them. The fact that this Pokemon is the soul of someone who died alone adds a fittingly sinister touch to the expression on Sinistea’s face.

Introduced in Gen 8,Sinistea has two forms: phony and antique. This particular entry comes from Sinistea’s antique form, which can be identified through the Pokedex or by looking at the stamp (or lack of stamp) on the base of the Pokemon using the in-game camera.
6Chewtle
A popular game among children is to lift up sticks that Chewtle have bitten onto to see whose Chewtle can hang on the longest.
Chewtle’s updated Pokedex entry provides more information about the world around it, as well as the Pokemon itself. It’s a great example of the small world-buildingthat goes on in Pokedex entries!
This rather charming entry describes a popular game played by the children of Paldea, which seems to benefit Chewtle as well. Its evolution, Drednaw, relies on having a powerful bite to attack, so this sort of strength training is definitely useful for Chewtle as well.
5Morgrem
This Pokémon absorbs negative emotions and turns them into energy. It’s popular with people who tend to think gloomy thoughts.
The second stage of the Impidimp evolutionary line has the most interesting updated Pokedex entry of all three. As opposed to its burlier evolution, Morgrem doesn’t have the muscle to back up its pranks, so it has to harvest that energy from somewhere else!
This Pokemon might even be the perfect therapy Pokemon. Rather than making someone feel better through care and affection, like Indeedee, it absorbs the negativity from a person’s mind and uses it as energy.
4Carkol
The temperature inside its body increases when it experiences strong emotions. It rolls around frantically while spewing flames.
Carkol is the middle stage of the Rolycoly evolution line, a line of Pokemon based on mining and mine carts. They were introduced inPokemon Sword & Shieldas part of the British-based Galar region, with a strong mining past.

They’ve reappeared inScarlet & Violet, in the mining town of Zapapico! This Pokedex entry is particularly charming, as it’s fun to imagine Carkol becoming so happy that it rolls around frantically.
3Appletun
When some Lechonk come along to lick the sweet nectar on Appletun’s back, Appletun will spew sticky nectar at them to drive them away.
Appletun isone of two possible evolutions of Applin, an apple Pokemon introduced in Gen 8. InPokemon Sword and Shield, these were version exclusives, but fans of the delightful apple Pokemon will be happy to hear that both evolutions are available inPokemon Scarlet and Violet.
As for the Pokedex entry, who can blame Lechonk for being attracted to the delicious-looking Appletun? Well, Appletun can. It’s fun to see how Pokemon interact with each other when trainers aren’t around, and this is a great example that grounds them a little more in reality.
2Drakloak
This Pokémon flies around at over 120 miles per hour. If a Drakloak is defeated in a battle, its Dreepy will wander off without a second thought.
The mid-stage evolution of the Dreepy line, Drakloak (a.k.a. the ‘Caretaker Pokemon’) is a Dragon/Ghost type that struck a chord with fans for its devotion to the younger stage of its evolution line. Up untilPokemon Scarlet & Violet, it was thought that Dreepy shared the same devotion to Drakloak.

What makesthis entry particularly heartbreakingis itsPokemon ShieldPokedex entry, which states that ‘without a Dreepy to place on its head and care for, it gets so uneasy it’ll try to substitute any Pokémon it finds for the missing Dreepy’. Poor Drakloak cares so much for Dreepy, only to be abandoned in return.
1Hatterene
Beware of forests that show no signs of living creatures within. You may have wandered into Hatterene’s territory.
Hatterene’s spooky Pokedex entry here is a result of its absolute distaste for any strong human emotion. In fact, Hatterene hates strong emotion so much that it almost feels cruel to keep one on a battle team, as it seems to vastly prefer being alone. So much so, that it will emit a strong psychic power when exposed to emotion that causes harm to anyone in the area.
Unfortunately for Hatterene, it isa powerful Psychic/Fairy typethat absolutely deserves a place on a strong battle team.
