2021 has been a great year for indie games coming to the Switch and now one of the year’s hottest indie titles,Wildermyth, will be making its way to the platform. Unfortunately, there isn’t a proper release date for it yet, but Worldwalker Games' Nate Austin has confirmed that a console port is in the works and thatSwitch fanscan expect it coming in the future.

Austin spoke about the game with Fanbyte on the site’s podcastThanks for the Knowledgeearlier this week and, although the episode won’t be airing until December 19, Fanbyte has announced that aWildermythSwitchport was confirmed during the discussion. Given how popular the RPG has been on PC, a port to consoles feels like a good move for the game; however, fans won’t be given a finalized release date for quite some time.

According to Fanbyte,Wildermythwas developed for Java which isn’t supported on the Switch meaning that Worldwalker Games will need to do some heavy lifting to get the game running onthe console-handheld hybrid. Due to how much work a shift like that will take, Austin told the outlet that the port will take “at least a year.” Fanbyte’s reporting doesn’t confirm if other console ports will be worked on alongside the Switch one.

Wildermythwas released earlier this year and has made its way into plenty of Game of the Year lists due to its truly unique concept. Essentially functioning as a tabletop RPG, the game is procedurally generated not just with things like enemy placement and the map, but with its characters and story, meaning that each player’s experience with the game is truly unique to them. There are seemingly limitless possibilities forhow a player’s time withWildermythcan shake out, making the game one of 2021’s most innovative and memorable.

Since the wait forWildermyth’s Switch port seems like it’s going to be a long one, Switch owners should consider picking up some of the indie games showcased atthis week’s Nintendo Indie Worldwhile they wait. Following the showcase, four titles launched on the Switch, including one of the year’s other big indie hits:Chicory: A Colorful Tale. Anyone looking to scratch the fantasy RPG itch in anticipation ofWildermyth’s release might also consider picking upDungeon Munchies, which matches the lighthearted tone ofWildermythwell and launched on Switch yesterday alongsideChicory.

Wildermythis available now for PC with a Switch port in development.
