Borderlandsis the OG looter shooter, but in some ways,Borderlands 3has taken from those that have come after it. This is particularly true through its release of mini-events alongside core story DLCs, as well as its continuation into a second season pass.Borderlands 2had a standard season passwith 4 DLCs, making it more or less of a one-off in this way (not that that the full game itself was).

Borderlands 3continues to expand and get support, with many likely looking forward to theDirector’s Cut DLC of Season Pass 2. What exactly it entails remains to be seen, but based on the pattern of past DLC, fans may be able to narrow down when it releases.

Borderlands 3 DLC Pattern

Since day one, there’s been a trackable pattern between the DLCs. Even once the COVID-19 pandemic hit, which likely impacted some of the content, the DLCs consistently released about three months a part. The exact day count varies, butBorderlands 3reliably delivered consistently:

Excluding a handful of days here or there, three months pass in between each DLC. The pandemic was in full stride when Bounty of Blood and Psycho Krieg dropped, but howeverGearbox Softwareapproaches this, it clearly works. As such, assuming that the Season Pass 2 content, which is more of additional add-ons than story DLCs, is as consistent seems like a safe bet.

Borderlands 3 Season Pass 2 Breaks Stride, But Follows Suit

Borderlands 3Season Pass 2 includes the Designer and Director’s Cuts for the game. Interestingly enough, the Designer’s Cut broke from the aforementioned pattern, releasing on Jun 16, 2025. This was exactly two months after Psycho Krieg released, but this was meant to coincide with therelease of the Xbox Series X. As of right now, it seems unlikely that the Director’s Cut will follow in exactly two months, as that would be January 10, and there’s been no word on it to suggest it’s coming that early.

However, accounting for the fact that the first Season Pass 2 DLC released on that date for a specific reason and how the content is arguably “smaller” than full-fledged story DLCs, there’s really no reason to not expect it to fall in line with past releases. There’s a good chance thatBorderlands 3’s Director’s Cutdrops some time in the three month zone, some time around February 10. Of course, it all remains to be seen, but fans shouldn’t be waiting much longer for this next DLC.

Borderlands 3is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
