Last week’s Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct concluded with a deep dive into Arkane’s upcoming open-world title and proved a welcome end to a solid showcase. Between the prompt pacing, excellent presentation, and the pleasant surprise drop ofHi-Fi Rush, Xbox fans had plenty to be excited about.Viewers were treated to never-before-seen vampire designsand offered further insight intoRedfall’s general gameplay loop, which will seemingly involve fighting to reclaim territories lost to the vampiric threat. But Bethesda has now updated the FAQ page forRedfallto include a few pieces of information that would have been a worthwhile mention during the anticipated walkthrough.

The FAQ page opens with a confirmation ofRedfall’s recently announced release date, although leaks suggest that a delay may be in the game’s best interest. After outlining how the three editions ofRedfalldiffer, one answer reads that a persistent online connection is required for both single-player and cooperative play. The following question pertains to account accessibility and states that not only is a Bethesda.net account required, but playingRedfallwill require it to be linked to a Steam/Xbox User ID. No justifications are provided for either of these developments.
Although a persistent online connection is not ideal, the requirement is not as frustrating as it once was. Given the popularity and abundance offree-to-play multiplayer titles likeFortniteandValorant, many gamers are used to being constantly online. Furthermore, several services require online connectivity for achievements to unlock/register, and it is something that the gaming community has increasingly become used to over the past decade.
That said, it is certainly a deal-breaker for many with a poor or inconsistent internet connection who has been looking forward to Arkane’s new IP, especially since the studio is famous forexclusively single-player experiences such asDishonoredandPrey. Both aforementioned titles do not require persistent online connectivity. EvenDeathloop, the most recent title released by Arkane, could be played offline despite a rather important mechanic that allowed other players to invade your world. It may have something to do with Xbox exclusivity or as an attempt to counter cheaters, but without any official reasoning, only speculation shall remain.
