Despite its cheesy B-movie dialog and Jean-Claude Van Damme-esque action, the originalResident Evil 4had its sincere moments, but the darker remake has amused one fan after they saw a pig fainting for seemingly no reason. Now that one of themost anticipated horror games of this generationis finally out, fans will be getting to grips with Capcom’s modern take on this iconic entry in theREseries, and reviews are already lavishing praises on this reimagining of a classic.
The series as a whole has generally been pretty serious, but there have been somefunny moments in theResident Evilgames, whether intentional or not. Many will recall Chris Redfield punching a giant boulder inRE5, while some older gamers will have fond memories of the first time they heard Barry use the “Jill sandwich” line in the first installment. These are what make the typically scary franchise so charming, even if the remakes opt for a generally darker vibe.

Even with a more brooding tone, fans can still find something comical. While playing the newly releasedResident Evil 4remake, for example, Reddit user Curious-Bug5738 was entertained by the sight of a pig fainting. What made this so mirthful for the player was the fact that the swine seemed to swoon as soon as Leon held up his gun, suggesting the animal was so fearful of violence that even seeing a weapon pointed at it was enough to make it collapse. Of course, this was just a coincidence, but it shows there are different ways to enjoy a game, even a horror one.
There are certainly going to be lots more examples surfacing that show interesting or unusual things happening in the title, not to mention plenty ofmods for theResident Evil 4remakethat will be inbound. As beloved as this reimagining will no doubt be, paying homage to the original while still feeling like a new game, there will always be those who feel a few tweaks and improvements can be made.
With the remake finally released, a ninth installment in the series said to be in development, andCapcom releasing a cuteResident Evilanimerecently, the franchise is in the best shape it’s been in years. How long it will be able to stay at the top remains to be seen at this point, but ifRE4is as critically acclaimed as people feel it will be, this influential survival horror series will continue to dominate the genre.
Resident Evil 4is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
