The highly anticipatedResident Evil 4remake releases later this month and the requisite amount of hard drive space that players will need to keep free for the game’s installation is 67 GB. TheResident Evil 4remake installation file has taken some by surprise, given that it is much larger than any previousResident Evilremake, and is also even larger than some of the more recent entries in the survival horror series.

Late last year, the system requirements needed for players torun theResident Evil 4remake on PCwere revealed, so gamers already had some idea of what the remake will aim to deliver on a technical level. However, the actual size of the installation file had not been made public, with Capcom only revealing it now via the Xbox store, where the game is available to pre-load.

The file size of theResident Evil 4remake is a whopping 67GB, at least on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. However, that file size will most likely be consistent across all platforms. Often, the file size given by studios is a bare minimum figure, with a larger total file size being entirely possible once post-release patches are made available.

While it may not be as large as aGrand Theft Autogame or aCall of Dutytitle, a 67 GB install for aResident Eviltitle is significant. For the sake of providing some perspective, the recently released Gold Edition ofResident EvilVillage, which encompasses all of that game’s updates and DLC, only clocks in at a total size of 30 GB. TheResident Evil 2remake only requires a fairly meager 23 GB to install, withResident Evil 7coming in at around 23GB also. With that being said,Resident Evil 4is one of the longest games in the franchise, which could somewhat account for the significant file size.

So, gamers who plan on picking up theResident Evil 4remake had better make sure that they have at least 67 GB of space free on their hard drive by the time that the game arrives on March 24th, or before then if they plan on taking advantage of the pre-load option. Even if theResident Evil Village Gold Editioninstallation fileis deleted to make room for the newResident Eviltitle, that will only free up half of the space required. The pre-load option for theResident Evil 4remake is only available for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S at the time of writing, but it should be made available to pre-load on other platforms imminently.

TheResident Evil 4remake was first revealed by Capcom back in June of last year during a PlayStation State of Play. The news of the remake was mostly met with positivity, however there was some trepidation due to the lukewarm reception of theResident Evil 3remake. During the previous State of Play stream, Capcom gave gamers a look at several of theResident Evil 4remake’scombat scenariosvia a slick gameplay trailer.

TheResident Evil 4remake will be released on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
