Much of the landscape around Capcom’s iconicResident Evilfranchise has shifted toResident Evil 8, confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 5at Sony’s “Future of Gaming” event last month. However, that has not stopped new content being produced for the asymmetrical horror gameResident Evil Resistance, which will be updated at least through September according to a new road map put out on Twitter Thursday.
Released alongside theResident Evil 3 Remake,Resistancepits four players as “Survivors” against one “Mastermind” who attempts to kill them with creatures and traps before they can escape — much like other popular titles in the genre, includingBehaviour Interactive’sDead by Daylight. This month the game will receive a huge collection of aesthetic items; including 21 skins for Survivors, 18 skins for weapons, and 5 new voice lines for Masterminds; and in August there will be a new “remixed” map called Uptown added.

While “more” updates are teased through September, the most concrete and interesting addition coming to the game is the Uptown map, which presumably will be related to Raccoon City givenResistancealready has a Downtown map based on the fan-favorite location. The game’s Title 3 Update in Juneadded a new prison mapas well as another collection of costumes.
Prior to that update,Resident Evil Resistanceadded Jill Valentine as a Survivor and Nicholai Ginovaef as a Mastermind fromResident Evil 3, which lends credence to the idea that this new Uptown map coming in August will be set somewhere in Raccoon City. However, the specifics of what it will entail are currently unknown, so fans will have to wait for official word from Capcom to find out more.
While long-time fans of the series wait forResident Evil 8, an anticipated sequel to the game that brought back a more traditional survival horror experience seen in earlier titles, consistent updates being promised forResistanceis good news for those who own the recentResident Evil 3 Remake. Based on details in the game’s trailer, it is believed thatResident Evil Villagemay bring back the old Umbrella Corporationfeatured in the earlier titles as well.
The recent resurgence of theResident Evilfranchise thanks toResident Evil 7and the two remakes has been a huge deal for Capcom, so it makes sense for them to continue work onResistance. Last month, the publisher and developer announced thatResident Evilhas sold older 100 million copiesof games worldwide, far surpassing other popular series likeMonster Hunter.
Resident Evil Resistanceis available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
