For many,Returnalis one of the first premium priced next generation games that players purchased. While the $70 price tag may have seemed hefty for some, those used to purchasing deluxe editions of games likely thought nothing of it. Since thedigital deluxe edition ofReturnalis only $10 more, many players took the opportunity to get some items and weapons to help out in the early runs. That said, players might have been confused when they started a cycle and found themselves equipped with nothing but Selene’s sidearm, with the weapons and items from the digital deluxe edition nowhere to be found. Here’s how to access them.
Returnalis unique from many other mainstream games because it is a roguelite. This means that many of the items players find as they play will be lost whenever they die and have to start over. There are certain things that will carry over between cycles, but weapons are not among them.

In the first biome ofReturnal, players can normally only find a Sidearm, the Spitmaw Blaster, and the Tachyomatic Carbine. It isn’t until reaching the next biome that the Hollowseeker is typically unlocked. Players with the digital deluxe edition start with this weapon unlocked, but this just means it has a chance to spawn whenever the player finds a weapon. This is more powerful than any of the aforementioned weapons, so it can be very useful when trying tobeatReturnal’s first boss, Phrike.
The other weapon that comes from the digital deluxe edition is the Electropylon Driver. While players can get the Hollowseeker early on in the second biome, the Electropylon Driver isn’t obtained untilmuch later inReturnal’s storynormally. This weapon fires pylons that latch onto enemies or surfaces and electrocute anything nearby. It can be difficult to use at first but is very powerful. Like the Hollowseeker, any time a player gets a weapon there is a chance it will be the Electropylon Driver. The level of the weapon is dependent on the player’s current proficiency level. These weapons aren’t guaranteed to show up in a cycle, but if they do players will have an easier time.
The digital deluxe edition also comes with some items. The Reflex Stimulant, Pulsating Mass Artifact, and Adrenaline Booster should be in the player’s inventory when they start their second run. If not, check inside the ship to see if they are there instead. These areconsumable items and will be permanently lost if they are used or if the player dies.
