Despite Nintendo seeming reluctant to show more of the highly-anticipatedLegend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2since its incredible debut at last year’s E3, fans have slowly but surely been learning more about the sequel from a number of reputable leaks.Story details surrounding Link’s next adventure surfaced online as recently as a month ago, while small details about what players can expect from the gameplay have emerged also.

It seems fans of the series might have just received another interesting tidbit of information from reputable YouTube personality Tyler McVicker, who shared a leak surrounding map details forBreath of the Wild 2and how its central antagonist impacts the open-world. Talking with fans on Twitch, McVicker explains a number of major changes to the title, with his first major bombshell being that the sequel’s map will remain mostly the same.

“They’re reusing the same world,” McVicker begins, continuing, “because they don’t have to rebuild the same world again they can repopulate that world with more in detail things.” He goes on to cite how many complained that the firstBreath of the Wildshould’ve had major dungeons on the surface, seemingly claiming that this sequel will focus more on populating the world with explorable locations and old-schoolZeldadungeons. For those wanting to hear McVicker discuss the topic, he begins at 11:20 in the video below:

This isn’t all the streamer had to say on the topic, however. Discussing how Link goes up a series of towers in the firstBreath of the Wildto scout out the map,McVicker goes on to explain how the team got around making players have to redo that all again. “Link has canonically already unlocked his map,” he begins, elaborating, “you need to have a contextual story beat within there, and essentially that is that miasmic version of Ganon has overtaken the entire world.” He’s, of course, referring to the almost demonic version of Link’s iconic arch-nemesis seen in theBreath of the Wild 2trailer, where the resurrected spirit ofGanonhas seemingly possessed his skeleton, emitting a sickly green glow.

McVicker continues by elaborating that Ganon’s miasmic presence has completely shrouded the world, and the player “physically can’t explore those sections until [they] clear out the miasmic areas of the map.” He goes on to elaborate that it’s “like theDivision 2,” perhaps clarifying more how this gameplay mechanic will work, with players seemingly exploring more of the game’s world as they slowly push Ganon back and free Hyrule once again. Interestingly the leaker also claims the game will initially be more linear than the previous title, which will no doubt make it an interesting change of pace forBreath of the Wildfans. As always for leaks, it’s worth taking McVicker’s words with a grain of salt, however, it’s no doubt intriguing nonetheless.

A sequel toThe Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wildis currently in development for the Nintendo Switch.
