Director Shawn Levy continues to see his stock rise as he is currently in talks to add aStar Warsfilm among his credits once he’s done with yet another Disney property,Deadpool 3.

Star Warswould come to represent one of the biggest breaks in Levy’s career, who first became famous in the early 2000s with family comedies such asBig Fat Liar,Cheaper by the Dozen,The Pink Panther, and theNight at the Museumfranchise. However, in recent years, Levy’s been associated with more prestigious projects, including 8episodes inStranger Things, though none as big as the possibility of making his ownStar Warsfilm, especially now in this new era for Lucasfilm.

News of negotiations comes courtesy ofDeadline, with the outlet reporting that Levy would spearhead hisStar Warsmovie oncehis commitments toDeadpool 3, set to start filming mid-2023, are fully finished. The same source was unable to collect any details regarding the possible plot and setting for thisStar Warsproject, or who may be tasked with writing the screenplay for it. However, the outlet confirmed that it would be a feature-length film and not one of the many series that find their way onto Disney Plus.

Currently,Star Wars' long-term future is in the hands of Taika Waititi and Patty Jenkins. However, the latter’sRogue Squadronwas pulled from Disney’s schedulerecently, so for now theThor: Love and Thunderdirector is tasked with handling the franchise’s first mainline film after the sequel trilogy. In recent years, Levy’s relationship with Disney has proven to be particularly fruitful as, besidesDeadpool 3, he also paired up with Ryan Reynolds forFree Guy, on top of also being a household name for Netflix as director forAll the Light We Cannot See.

Of course, anyStar Warsfilm from Levy is surely far away into the future, as Lucasfilm has confirmed Waititi’s project is next in line, with all scheduling clues pinning that as a 2025 release. With Jenkins’Rogue Squadronon the back burner, all this means that, at the very earliest, Levy’sStar Warswould fall in the December 2027 slot the studio has planned, longafter Deadpool and Wolverine have graced theaterswith their presence.

On the streaming front, theStar Warspipeline sure looks more loaded. The Bad Batchseason 2 kicks offin 2023, whileYoung Jedi AdventuresandVisions: Volume 2complement its animated offerings. Meanwhile,AhsokaandThe Acolytewill joinThe Mandalorianseason 3 in the live-action territory.

TheStar Warssaga is now available on Disney Plus.
