Most of the map inElden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtreewill be accessible to players early into entering the Realm of Shadow. While there is an ideal path in what order bosses are fought, there is a good bit of freedom in what order players tackle most of the bosses in the DLC.
This isn’t the case with the final section of the DLC, which houses the final boss. Players will be able to get close to this final dungeon after defeating theDivine Beast Dancing Lion, but will find the path forward Sealed and Obscured by Shadow; here’s how to clear the shadow and progress forward.

Despite the base game and DLC being open world, burning the Sealing Tree acts as a point of no return, with players needing to complete certain content before missing out on it after this moment. This article has been updated to include all the missable content along with additional content for players to go back and complete before proceeding to the final dungeon.
How To Clear The Shadow In Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
While this location can be accessed early on, the shadow is blocking the players from entering the final dungeon of the DLC. To clear the shadow, players will need to find and burn the Sealing Tree, which will require them to beat two of the major bosses throughout the DLC. The mainrequired bosses are Romina, Saint of the Bud, andMessmer the Impaler.
Messmer The Impaler can be foundfirst and is located at the top of the Shadow Keep, which is reached by progressing through to thevery top of the Specimen Storehouse. Romina, Saint of the Bud will require players to enter the Shadow Keep, but instead, exit the Specimen Storehouse to the exit bridge of the Shadow Keep heading west.Romina, Saint of the Bud is foundbytraversing the Scorpion River Catacombs and reaching the westernmost section of this region.
Defeating Romina will give players access to the location of the sealing tree, withMessmer’s Kindlingbeing used when interacting with the Sealing Tree to give the player the option to burn the tree or wait.
Should You Burn The Sealing Tree In Shadow Of The Erdtree
Burning the Sealing Tree will unlock the final dungeon of the game, but also acts as apoint of no return for the NPC quest lines found throughoutShadow Of The Erdtree. Players can still travel and explore the region as much as they would like, defeating missed bosses and getting missed items, but the NPC quest lines will all be ended once the Sealing Tree is burned.
After the Sealing Tree is burned, players will be teleported to one of the entrances to the final dungeon. Players can also travel back towhere they fought the Divine Beast Dancing Lion and climb to stairs to enter the previously blocked path, leading to another entrance to the final dungeon, with both starting points meeting up quickly. There will be a Site of Grace and the ability to fast travel immediately available for players who just want to see the new area before going back and preparing more. This is the final legacy dungeon of the DLC and will have some of the hardest enemies there are. There is only one boss, the final boss, and players should considerfinding every Scadutree Fragmentto maximize their blessing rank.

Entering the final dungeon and even defeating the final boss won’t lock players out of all of the hidden bosses found throughout the DLC.
