The information comes from a memo which says that these editions “won’t arrive in stores” and any orders will not be fulfilled. According to a second memo, these cancellations impacted all in-store reservations and some online reservations that had been paid in full. However, an additional tweet from Wario64 says customers whose orders have been cancelled can choose to transfer their reservation to another game, receive the amount paid as store credit, or get a full refund. Other customers are keeping an eye on their online reservation to see what happens going forward.
In a response to Wario64’s tweet, user RuleTime stated that orders being cancelled was due to a system error, citing information from GameStop employee customer support. If this is true, it seems as though anyone who was hoping for the Collector’s Edition and had their order canceled may be able to place another order online, if there is stock remaining. It would be unfortunate if fans couldn’t get this version ofRE4, especially given it’s likely to be one of thebiggest horror releases of 2023.
As excited as people are about the game, this is not the first bad news fans have received. Not long ago, a report stated that theResident Evil 4remake would be locking content behind special editionsof the release. This is unlikely to have an effect on the base game in terms of its story, but there will be fans disappointed that some things are being kept back unless they pay extra money.
Resident Evil 4releases on March 24 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
