Despite its cute appearance, Greavard fromPokemon Scarlet and Violetcan steal the life force of those around it, so a fan came up with a theory on how trainers could hug it. The newest Ghost-type Pokemon from Paldea Region was introduced inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s latest trailers.Just like other Ghost types, Greavard’s design has spooky elements, such as its white, ghost-like fur and the burning candle on its head.The Pokemon also has big jawsthat could shatter bones with just one bite. But its most unsettling quality is that trainers around it could feel fatigued because of its life force-stealing ability, which it does inadvertently. YouTuber ZoeTwoDots suggested that one way to do this is to get a Togepi. She explained that the two could have a symbiotic relationship as Togepi thrives off the positive emotions of people and Pokemon, and stores feelings of happiness in its shell. Zoe surmised that this would work because Greavard seems like a friendly and playful creature based on the game’s trailers. The two could create an infinite friendship loop that may make it easier for trainers to go near the Ghost-type Pokemon.
OtherPokemonfans agreed with Zoe’s suggestion of Greavard having an “emotional support egg,” with one pointing out that Togepi managed to do the same to Houndoom in the anime. Another suggested that trainers could adopt thepowerful “life Pokemon” Xerneas, which is a Legendary Fairy-type monster from Gen 6, as an alternative to counter its death-like qualities. Meanwhile, some were also worried that Greavard could potentially steal Togepi’s life force by accident.
There’s no telling yet whether the Togepi trick would work on Greavard in canon or not.Pokemon Scarletand Violetplayers could simply adopt a Togepi to give Greavard a friend, but it seems likethe Pokemon might not be returningforScarlet and Violet. Besides, it’s still unclear whether trainers or Pokemon would feel fatigued around the ghost dog just like in the “Ghost Hunt” trailer.
Fortunately, players only need to wait a month to get their hands onPokemon Scarlet andVioletto catch their first Greavard in Paldea Region. And instead of a Togepi, perhaps they could catch the otherdog-like Pokemon Fidoughto bond with Greavard.
