While last week’s PlayStation showcase had a lot of excellent moments, one trailer that caused viewers' jaws to drop was the reveal ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2. Insomniac has been doing a great job converting the comic pages of the character into video games, so seeingthe team-up between Peter Parker and Miles Moralesteased at the end of the most recent game was more than enough to excite fans. The stinger at the end of the trailer was what really sold the whole thing, though. Venom will be making an appearance in the game and, from the looks of it, seems like he might be a major antagonist.
Although the trailer makes it look like Venom might be the “big bad” ofSpider-Man 2, that doesn’t necessarily need to be the case. The two end up fighting quite a bit in the comics and films, sure, however, it isn’t always that way. Sometimes, the pair even teams up to fight bigger battles, which means that it’s not entirely out of the question that they might end up working together before the credits roll.

Finding Out Who’s Behind Venom’s Mask
Although Eddie Brock is often thought of asthe most iconic Venom host, he isn’t always the one who’s paired with the symbiote. In fact, there’s a laundry list of classicSpider-Mancharacters that have hosted the parasite including Flash Thompson, Lee Price, and even Peter Parker himself. Eddie Brock still seems like a solid candidate to be paired with the symbiote, though. After all, he’s been featured prominently in the film adaptations of the character, withVenomand the soon-to-be-releasedVenom: Let There Be Carnageadding to the villain’s fan base in recent years. That said, introducing a new character and villain might not be the most narratively satisfying thing forSpider-Man 2,which has brought plenty of fans to theorize that Venom might actually be Harry Osborn in Insomniac’s universe.
Venom and Harry have been paired before in otherSpider-Manmedia, so it wouldn’t be unheard of for the two to be getting together in the sequel. What’s more, both of the post-credit scenes in Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames have included Harry in a tank of liquid covered in what looks to be symbiote webs. It stands to reason that he could be the one paired with Venom instead of Eddie Brock. Although he hasn’t had much of a role in the otherSpider-Mangames, both have beenteasing Harry Osborn’s introduction to the franchise, so it makes sense that he could be coming as Venom.

Fighting Alongside Venom in Spider-Man 2
If it does turn out that Harry Osborn isVenom inSpider-Man 2, then it could mean that he will end up teaming up with Peter and Miles at some point during the game. Harry is mostly absent from the first game, but based on the many “Passion Project” missions that Peter completes, it’s clear that the two were really close before he allegedly went abroad. If they really are as good of friends as Peter makes it seem, then Harry could come to the realization that Spider-Man is his friend and decide not to fight him.
There’s likely to be a scene or two wherePeter and Miles face off against Venom, but it seems a little too straightforward for that to be all that it is. Whether Venom’s host is Harry Osborn, Eddie Brock, or any other character, their relationship is likely to be much more complicated than the initial teaser trailer lets on. Because of Venom’s constantly changing allegiance in the comics, it doesn’t seem hard to believe he might shift to be on Peter and Miles' side before the game is over.
