The animeSpy Classroomhas been green-lit for a second season, the team behind the anime announced last week. Beyond just announcing the date, a new teaser trailer and promotional image were also released. The new season ofSpy Classroomwill air with the summer anime season this July. Right now, the new season does not have an official name, though that may change closer to the release.

Spy Classroomis based on a light novel by Takemachi, and is their first and only work at this time. It’s set in a world where countries fight their wars from the shadows, using spies and espionage rather than big weapons. The main character is a girl named Lily, who is studying to become one of these spies. Only one month into her training, though, she and six other girls are given the chance to take on an impossible mission with amysterious man named Klaus. Up against impossible odds, it’s their best chance to achieve their dreams after they have all faced academic failures.

The new promotional image for season two has Annett front and center, along with Erna, Monika, and Thea. Interestingly, Lily and Klaus are both absent from the visual. Lily does show up in the trailer, though, which features mostly scenes from the anime’s first season. The trailer focuses mainly on therelationship between the girls, before announcing the new season in the form of the next mission at the end of the trailer. At only 40 seconds long, it is just a teaser, but any news is better than nothing.

The first season ofSpy Classroompremiered in January 2023, and aired for the winter anime season. Thecurrent spring seasonwill be the only gap between seasons, which is good news forSpy Classroomfans, considering anime fans often have to wait at least a year between seasons. And for fans in Japan, the first season is being rebroadcast right now, anyway.

Most of the voice cast from season one ofSpy Classroomis returning for the new season. This includes all the main characters. Additionally, the same director, script supervisor, and character designer from season one will stay to work on the project as well. This means that the new season should have the same feel as the first one, and hopefully can have the same kind of positive feedback as well. ConsideringSpy Classroomonly began publishing in 2020, this is an incredible success for its creator, Takemachi.

Many manga artists and light novel writers wait years to see their works brought to the screen, but Takemachi only had to wait a few years. And to already get the green light for season two right after season one airs? That speaks for the quality ofSpy Classroom, and how popular both theoriginal materialand the anime adaptation have been.
