TheStar Warsfranchise has a multitude of awe-inspiring and iconic vehicles. Crafts suchas the X-Wing, the TIE-Fighter, and the Millennium Falcon are as - if not more - notable than their pilots. While most of these vessels are impressive, few evoke the same fear and wonder as Slave 1. This unique spacecraft is among the Fett family’smost cherished possessions, holding worth comparable to their Mandalorian armor.

Even so, fans know little about Slave 1 beyond theStar Warsmainstream, i.e., movies and shows. As such, its history, capabilities, and overall functionality are unknown to most. Considering the numerous fascinating details revolving around Slave 1, it is a shame. Fortunately, the most intriguing elements of this vessel’s obscure lore are readily available to unknowing fans.

7It Was A Prototype Prisoner Transport

A contributing factor to Slave 1’s fame is its peculiar yet advantageous design. In truth, many of its desirable features and functions result from the craft’s original purpose. Before being stolen and refitted by Jango Fett, Slave 1 was a prototype prisoner transport known as the Firespray-31-class starship. Kuat Systems Engineering developed these crafts for use by the Republic Correctional Authority.

The design of the Firespray-31-class starship specializes in transporting prisoners and intercepting other nefarious individuals. As such, it possesses a variety of devices meant to restrain, debilitate, or destroy unsavory characters. For bounty hunterslike Jango and Boba Fett, these tools prove to be invaluable. Thus, it’s why most of them remain unchanged or upgraded, despite Slave 1’s heavy modifications.

6It Is The Last Of Its Kind

As stated before, Slave 1 was originally a prototype craft called the Firespray-31-class starship. Being a framework model, Kuat Systems Engineering only produced six and deployed them to Oovo 4. There, the Firespray-31-class starships would oversee the prison. Specifically, carrying out responsibilities involving transportation, protection, and interception.

Even though the Firespray-31-class starships proved to be effective, an incident ensured their discontinuity. During a prison break on Oovo 4, Jango Fett came across a hangar of the prototype vehicles. Needing transportation to escape, Jango Fett took a Firespray-31-class starship and destroyed the remaining five, inadvertently crippling Kuat Systems Engineering and making his newfound craft a one-of-a-kind vessel.

5It Has A Multitude Of Armaments

Under the Fetts' ownership, Slave 1 has received countless upgrades and additions suitable for their line of work. The most impressive, however, is the integration of a multitude of devastating armaments. Each weapon serves a particular purpose, typically involving the deterrence, capture, or elimination of targets. Slave 1’s vast arsenal is too extensive, so only the most prominent will be listed below:

Twin Rotating Blaster Cannons

Slave 1’s Twin Rotating Blaster Cannons are its most recognizable weapons, chiefly because they are the most apparent. The Twin Rotating Blaster Cannons unleash overwhelmingly powerful blasts, capable of devastating even the most formidable ships. Moreover, they feature a rotary device, allowing them to target nearly anything before and behind Slave 1.

Seismic Charges

Seismic Charges are the most iconic and destructive armaments in Slave 1’s arsenal. Many fans recognize the sound of these weapons' concussive blasts and the resulting devastation. The Seismic Charges work most effectively to dispatch pursuing crafts. Regardless of a starship’s maneuverability, this weapon’s expansive reach and forceful blasts will almost definitely ensure its destruction.

4It Has Specialized Holding Cells

Before undergoing heavy modification, Slave 1 possessed six police-regulated holding cells used to transport prisoners. Alone, these immobilizing cages could withhold a variety of creatures well beyond the capabilities of a typical inmate. Because of their remarkable efficiency, the Fett’s retained the holding cells, implementing many upgrades and modifications.

Chiefly, the holding cells underwent numerous alterations that were inhumane yet astoundingly functional. The once comparatively comfortable and considerate cages became coffin-like compartments. One could barely move within these claustrophobic holding cells, making their escape a near impossibility. Moreover, a single holding cell possessed a Force Cage, a device that impeded the Force.

3It Has Two Configurations

Slave 1 underwent many changes from its original Firespray-31-class starship model. However, the most significant modifications took place during its transfer from Jango to Boba Fett. So much so that Slave 1’s alterations are separated into two distinct variants: Jango Fett’s configuration and Boba Fett’s configuration.

Jango Fett’s Configuration

Jango Fett’s configuration of Slave 1 was far less well equipped and dangerous in comparison to his son. Even so, it was a formidable vessel that proved to be a match for most spacecraft. Slave 1’s various armaments offered great versatility in combat, allowing Jango to adapt to most situations. However, it pales in comparison to Boba Fett’s Slave 1 configuration.

Boba Fett’s Configuration

Boba Fett’s configuration of Slave 1 was much more effective than his father’s. It possessed most of the weaponry from before, although heavily upgraded. In addition, Boba Fett implemented a multitude of unique weapons meant to account for numerous situations. Each armament performs its function well and allows Slave 1 to face vessels far beyond the typical starship. Thus, it better suits Boba Fett’s dangerousbounty hunter lifestyle.

2It Was Destroyed And Restored

Slave 1 has seen countless battles, yet only one resulted in its destruction. In a plight for vengeance, Boba Fett, alongside bounty hunters Aurra Sing, Bossk, and Cassk, luredJedi Master Mace Winduto the planet Florrum. During this pursuit,Padawan Ahsoka Tanogrounded Slave 1, leaving it in a state of near disrepair. Unfortunately, Boba Fett was indisposed, allowing the pirate Hondo Ohnaka to take ownership of Slave 1.

Under Hondo’s care, Slave 1 was repaired and refurbished to his liking. What was once the galaxy’s most revered and feared ship became an addition to Hondo’s collection. Slave 1 remained in Hondo’s care until Boba Fett reclaimed it at a later date. Since then, it has remained intact and has undergone many modifications to prevent such tragedy from occurring again.

1It Is Not Boba Fett’s Only Ship

While Slave 1 is Boba Fett’s most used and valued ship, it is not the only one in his possession. In truth, the bounty hunter had to acquire other vessels when his prized vessel was unavailable. According toStar Wars Legends, Boba Fett owned three other starships: Slave 2, Slave 3, and Slave 4.

Although each was a different model, they all possessed lethality comparable to Slave 1. Slave 2, in particular, bore many of Slave 1’s admirable qualities, making it a suitable replacement for Boba Fett. Slave 3 and Slave 4, however, saw much less use by the bounty hunter. Even though these starships are not canon, it is not farfetched to think they willappear in the future.
