Summary
Bethesda has added food and other aid items in its space exploration title,Starfield. Not only is it unsurprising considering the studio’s previous works, but players have likewise shown appreciation for the exhaustive list on offer. At present, trophy hunters chasing 100% completion will have to collect all 344 types of such consumables. All of them bring their own status effects or applications to the table, though many are not worth the effort of hauling around.

When talking about the various playstyles that players can opt for, meleecomes up as one of the top favorites. It is important to note thatthe best aid itemsthat can help any playstyle, particularly melee, are drugs that can be crafted. These afflict the character with addiction when used too often, so it’s advised thatStarfieldplayers pace out the usage and always keep some units of an antidote on hand.
10Doro Wat
Since melee fights have gamers moving around quickly and facing damage, Doro Wat is agood low-cost food aid to keep stocked up. Consuming multiple units is quite easy on the pocket and offers a great cost-to-effectiveness ratio for melee inStarfield.
While the status effect will naturally not stack, the 25 Health does and comes in really handy. This is especially beneficial considering many other food items cost about the same but don’t enhance overall health and ability as effectively. Since the mass is quite low, players can carry around a decent stockpile and rest assured that they’ll survive almost any fight, even if they do cut it close sometimes.

9Stellar Kebabs
This is anotherstellarfood choice that players can use for melee playstyles. Similar to the Doro Wat, it helps ensure that they don’t get winded down early byenhancing the O2 recovery rate. Further, the energy resistance added makes it a great choice. While players may choose a melee build or may just run out of ammo and have to use fists, the NPCs present are ruthless and will not back down.

While those who have progressed much further ahead inStarfieldwill naturally lean on drugs for a better impact, the Stellar Kebabs retains its importance as it is cost-effective and uses less mass.
8Alien Genetic Material
The Alien Genetic Material is a resource that can be tricky to get hold of in the game. Since it can only be obtained as rare drops, its overall presence is a bit iffy, although Terrormorphs have been reported to sport higher odds. Further, the effects only last for 30 seconds, which is quite a small window.
Althoughplayers can sell it off, it is recommended they keep these in store for the status effects they provide for melee inStarfield. Alien Genetic Material can give them a good window to make an escape if needed or even give them enough time to use their powers to deal massive damage.

7AMP
The AMP can come in quite handy during a fight since it makes players quite more agile than they are. With this variant of the item, the two-minute duration is pretty decent, as it is usually enough to get out of a bad spot or quickly take down enemies. It does not enhance damage on its own, but allowing players to move and attack faster is a benefit that can’t be overlooked in a game likeStarfield.

A good positive is that it is useful even during later stages of the game, where players have added enough skill points to the Physical skill tree and can deflect damage, have more health, and better O2 recovery. In such cases, collecting more of these than others is a smart choice for melee playstyles.
6Red Trench
The Red Trench is an incredibly useful drug. It requires Cob-X and BattleStim to be crafted, which in turn are good aid items for melee playstyles. Although it can be a bit tricky for those at the very initial stages ofStarfield, it becomes fairly easy to acquire and stockpile.
Since it enhances melee damage itself and makes them Hulk-like for a decent duration, it can benefit even those players who haven’t addedskill points in movement abilities in the Physical skill tree. As such, if they can’t make their escape and have to make their “last stand,” at least they’ll go down in a blaze of glory.

5Black Hole Heart
This is an excellent aid item that players will find handy. Once they have gone through the primary quest Into the Unkown, they will unlock the first Power. Several are present, and it can take some time to acquire all of them. Nevertheless, their efficacy in fights cannot be understated.

What makes the Black Hole Heart a great aid item is the presence of multiple benefits, especially for melee inStarfield. Not only is Power Recovery a massive advantage in battle, but slowing down time and increasing movement speed are buffs that are too big to ignore. What is disappointing is that the duration is just 10 seconds.
4Supermassive Black Heart
Similar to the Black Hole Heart but way more impactful, this is a good item that players should have on themselves at all times. The duration comes in at 10s and is again a very weak point, but gamers will be almost gods in that timeframe.
There aren’t going to be many instances of melee combat inStarfieldwhere the Supermassive Black Heart may be legitimately needed. But having one enables players tooverpower a group of enemies, make a last stand, or eke out an escape. It can become addictive, but the potential is too good to pass up.

3Frostwolf
A lot of the melee action inStarfieldcomes by way of stealth attacks gone wrong. While many players do enjoy the rush of getting up close and personal when going against multiple enemies, sometimes it’s better to take them out stealthily a la Hitman. The Frostwolf is one such aid item that will help them do exactly that. A unique aspect is that it increases resistance to cold damage, but it is fairly addictive.

It also offers nice movement and damage buffs, and the noise reduction is just great. Further, the duration it lasts is favorable and will come in very handy during late-game scenarios or infiltration missions. Since the mass is also less, it can be stocked up quite easily. It may be a bit tricky to get Caelumite or Frostwolf Meat, but players will have a decent stockpile if they explore even a few planets. The other ingredients are available much more easily.
2Hypergiant heart
Hypergiant Heart is almost a godsend when it comes to aid items that help enhance melee playstyles. It doesn’t increase physical damage per se, but increasing power recovery and adding damage and energy resistance is practically the same thing but in a different way.
The duration of five minutes clearly marks its potential for melee combat inStarfield. It won’t help players move like a butterfly, but it will help them stand there like atanked-up bee with stellar power usage.

1RedAmp
The RedAmp is a wonderful item for any melee build inStarfield. It can be addictive if taken too often or too much, just like other drugs, but it’s unlikely that players will go on ahand-to-hand combat spreefor hours on end. Even if they do, having a good antidote on hand will help them negate its cons.
Since it offers enhanced damage, movement speed, jump height, and damage resistance, there’s no fight or ambush that it can’t help players dominate. Further, it’s relatively easy to craft since the components required aren’t particularly difficult to stockpile.

Starfieldis available on PC and Xbox Series X/S.
