Square Enix’s last reveal for Square Enix Presents for E3 was the SoulslikeStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin,a re-imagining of the originalFinal Fantasytitle. The biggest reveal of its part of the presentation was that for PlayStation 5 owners, a demo would be live shortly after the show, but getting it would be a different story.
The trailer showed off the protagonist of the new title, along with his two party members, as they narrated about defeating monsters and Chaos, all set over new brutal combat gameplay for the new installment ofFinal Fantasy. The final line of the trailer seems to be the antagonist of the game, declaring “I have become Chaos” before showing the title inthe usualFinal Fantasyflare and splendor.

While the trailer ended with last-second vague information that a demo would be available on PS5 “soon,” it actually droppedafter Square Enix Presentswas over, leading excited fans to go run to download it as soon as they had the chance. Those who were ready to sink their teeth into what the demo had to offer after a promising preview have been met with trouble instead, with error messages saying the data of the demo is “corrupted,” and that it needed to be deleted and redownloaded.
Square Enixwas quickly made aware of the issues and used the official Twitter for the game to reassure fans that the demo is being worked on as fast as possible. Finding humor in the situation, fans quoted the many times the characters in the newly released trailer spoke of the antagonist, saying things like “this is truly Chaos” underneath the post, among other things.
WhileStranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originlooks promisingbeyond the difficulties presented by the demo, hopefully Square Enix will see the end of the Chaos jokes once the errors have been cleared and fans can see the new vision forFinal Fantasyfor themselves. And once the demo has possibly left a better impression of the title and style change in fans' minds, it becomes a matter of waiting from there to see if the full game holds up to what it offers once it releases next year.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Originwill be available in 2022 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PC, PS4, and PS5.
