Subnautica: Below Zerois the arctic-themed ocean exploration sequel to theindie hitSubnauticadeveloped and published by Unknown Worlds. After spending several years in early access during a tumultuous development process that saw the game’s story go through dramatic rewrites and writer changes, the game’s release was mostly well-received despite some key differences from the original. The removal of several vehicles such as the iconic Seamoth and Cyclops, the change from a silent protagonist to a more talkative player character, and a more compressed environment were all controversial design choices. Post-release, the game has received a steady stream of updates that have helped improve the experience and add new content.

The latest update entitled What The Dock has brought some highly-requested features into the game that longtime fans have been hoping to see. The star of this update is the new Seatruck Dock building, which finally allows players to safely dockSubnautica: Below Zero’s Seatruck vehicleinto their base. The Seatruck Dock will automatically repair and recharge the Seatruck at the cost of power, while a built-in terminal allows players to customize the appearance of the Seatruck and its modules. The dock can hold the Seatruck and up to 5 modules far more conveniently than leaving them in open water, although it’s recommended to place the Seatruck Dock in a fairly open location to reduce the chance of frustrating collisions during docking and undocking.

Another major feature included in this update is the Custom Game Mode option. A plethora of new settings are available to fully customize the gameplay experience, including adjusting the length of day and night, the frequency of inclement weather, player damage taken, vehicle damage taken, predator damage taken, creature hostility, and even the option for a vegetarian diet. These settings should giveSubnautica: Below Zerobeginnersmuch more breathing room while also providing veteran ocean explorers with increased challenges. A new Unstuck Button conveniently located in the pause menu will also allow players to teleport to their last safe location in the event that they find themselves stuck within some tricky geometry.

Steam Cloud Save functionality has also been restored along with tons of bug fixes and optimizations to make the experience go smoother than ever. Thanks to a variety of custom gameplay options and new base-building features, now is a great time to hop into the game and startbuilding a new base inSubnautica: Below Zero.
