Coming into 2022, Warner Bros. Interactive seemingly had a clear—if ambitious—plan. It would have four major releases, perhaps punch above its weight, inLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga,Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League,Gotham Knights, andHogwarts Legacy.Prior to the recent State of Play presentation on the latter, a lot was known aboutLEGO Star Warsbecause it had been delayed, andSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguehad been at a few showcases.

Indeed, comparing the marketing betweenSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice LeagueandGotham Knights, it seemed certain that the former was more likely to release this year. With four major releases, it seems like a delay was on the table for one game. The two that seemed the most likely to be delayed, at least around the marketing if not the leaks and messaging, wereGotham KnightsandHogwarts Legacy. That has been thrown out the window, at least for now.

In February, it was reported thatSuicide Squadwas being delayed into 2023. Warner Bros. Interactive didn’t and still hasn’t commented on this, but at the time, it made many worried aboutGotham Knights. But whenGotham Knightsgot a release date,Suicide Squadwas silent and the buzz around the game was silent.

Of the four games, the only game that was and still seems hard set in its currentrelease date isLEGO Star Wars. Hogwarts Legacyrecently confirmed a release window of Holiday 2022, whileGotham Knightsis set for an October release. Neither are exempt from potential delays, but having a time frame out there for games that haven’t been shown much is at least a good sign that more will come.

Yet, while the lesser showcasedGotham KnightsandHogwarts Legacynow have release dates/windows, there is utter silence aroundSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice League. There was little reason to doubt the aforementioned reporting ofSuicide Squad’s delay, as it came from Bloomberg, but this change in terms of release date, showcases, and marketing all point to a delay.

WhetherGotham KnightsorHogwarts Legacyjoin it in 2023 remains to be seen, but it’s not impossible. But, at this point, to cling to some hope thatSuicide Squad: Kill The Justice Leaguedoes release this year—especially as the titular team’s popularity is at an all-time high, would be setting one’s self up for disappointment. The silver lining, of course, is a full-year delay means a lot more time to perfect and polish, and as the old saying goes, a game delayed is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad.
