It was revealed that Sweeney plays the role of Julia Carpenter, the second Spider Woman. Sony is ensuring their stars keep quiet about the details of their roles and the film, as Sweeney toldTotal Film magazine, “I couldn’t be more excited. I can’t wait to be able to talk about it.” Sweeney also talked about herMadame Webco-stars and the film saying, “I can’t wait to be able to be next to the girls that I filmed with – Dakota and Isabela, and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I’m really excited that it’s just gonna be a powerhouse of badass females for the world to see.”
Also known as Arachne in the comics, Julia Carpenter took up the Madame Web mantle in 2010. Julia Carpenter can also be seen in one of the posters for Sony’sSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.It is unknown whether the character will play a major role inAcross the Spider-Verseor be one of the countless Spider-people in the background. However, Sweeney’s live-action role inMadame Webis expected to be substantial.
Dakota Johnson is playing the role of Cassandra Webb inMadame Web. Cassandra Webb is a mutant who was blind most of her life and suffers from neurological deterioration, which has left her mostly paralyzed. However, she uses her psychic abilities to compensate and can use them to seewhat is happening throughout the Spider-Verse.
Alongside Sweeney and Johnson, other confirmed cast members include Isabela Merced, Celeste O’Connor, Emma Roberts, Zosia Mamet, and Adam Scott.What roles they will play inMadame Webhave yet to be confirmed. Fans will still have to wait a while, as theMadame Webmovie is set to release in 2024 after multiple delays.
