Teslagrad 2continues the original story with a new protagonist called Lumina, the daughter of the original Teslamancer who also appeared in the standalone follow-upWorld to the West.Teslagradwas a widelysuccessful indie platformer gamethat told the story of a young boy who wields electromagnetic powers, dubbed Telemancy, in a game focused on traversal physics platforming and puzzle-solving.
In a recent interview with CEO Peter Wingaard Meldahl of Rain Games, Game Rant learned 2’s new abilities. He also discussedTeslagrad 2’s puzzle-solving compared to the original puzzle-platformer Metroidvania game released in 2013.

Although Meldahl stated the trailers don’t reveal all ofTeslagrad 2’s new powers yet with some “real surprises” to come, he explained how Lumina has a mixture of brand-new powers and ones seen in the original game,
Her abilities are somewhat different from those of her dad’s, though some things stay the same. She keeps the blink, though we have reworked it to make it integrate better with the terrain, and of course, she has the signature Teslamancer cloak letting her change her own polarity to attract and repel from magnetic surfaces. She only has one polarity though, unlike her dad.

There are some greatpuzzle games with innovative mechanics, andTeslagrad 2incorporates some new magnet powers into the game, such as the ability to “curve and twist” magnets and for Lumina to “reorient herself to magnetic surfaces.” Meldahl added Lumina’s “slew of new powers” also include sliding abilities,
Among them, she gets the power to diffuse into rapidly traveling electricity in water and along wires. She can also slide, something that works well with the physics in the game. She’ll later learn to power this slide, enabling her to move along curves at blinding speed and build up some incredible momentum.
Meldahl additionally spoke about how puzzles work inTeslagrad 2compared to the original game, which retainsTeslagrad’s focus on puzzle-solving and outsmarting enemies over combat. This is one of many stand-out features of the game, as it uniquely differs from combat-centric, popular platformingMetroidvania games likeHollow Knight. As Meldahl said,
Apart from the powers, we let Lumina carry and move things. This made it easier to create certain puzzles. Apart from the straightforward puzzles, there are also ones that I like to call “Traversal puzzles.” These are usually open areas that you may move through incredibly fast if you figure out how to. By all means, players can just stroll through them normally. But who doesn’t want to go fast?
Meldahl also explained more about how players can overcome enemies withTeslagrad 2’s focus on physics-based movement and combat in comparison to the originalpuzzle platformer game. As Meldahl put it,
You do, however, get the tools to kill enemies a bit earlier than in the originalTeslagrad. There are also enemies that leech onto your electric powers, gaining strength. Right from the get-go there is a way to defeat these enemies by overcharging them.
There are some fantasticgames with great traversal mechanicsout there, and it sounds like Lumina could potentially have the speedy electric-powered abilities to rival powerful platforming heroes like Sonic the Hedgehog when it comes to getting around and conquering enemies. It will be fascinating for fans of the originalTeslagradand new players alike to see more of Lumina’s new electromagnetic abilities and traversal puzzle-solving skills in action inTeslagrad 2.
Teslagrad 2is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
