Looks like even the fastest man alive might have trouble keeping to a schedule sometimes.DC’s upcoming filmThe Flashappears to finally have a set window to begin filming, and in at least two ways, it’s about time.
The film is reportedly set to begin shooting in April 2021. Ezra Miller will return to play the titular hero while Andy Muschietti, director of 2017’sIt, is attached to direct. Filming will reportedly be done at Warner Bros. Studios, Leavesden in England. The studio has famously been used in the production of countless high profile movies, including theHarry Potterfilms as well as 2008’s smash hitThe Dark Knight.

This will technically be Miller’s 5th time in the role of Barry Allen/The Flash. First appearing as a cameo in 2016’sBatman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he went on to star inJustice Leaguea year later, but not before a guest appearance inSuicide Squad. Some also forget that he had a surprise guest role inthe CW’sCrisis on Infinite Earthscrossover event, which allowed for a generally rare instance where a character technically exists in the universes of both the DC films and TV shows.
While the plot ofThe Flashis currently unconfirmed, many rumors have heavily hinted that it will cover the “Flashpoint” story from the comics, which had previously been adapted in theFlashTV series on the CW. This theory gained some major traction after some talk in the industry suggested thatBen Affleck and Michael Keaton would return as their versions of Batmanin the film. Alongside a similar insinuation thatThe Flashwould effectively reset the DC Extended Universe, it’s not difficult to treat these tidbits as more than baseless rumors.
Of course, that isn’t to say this confirms anything. After all, a rumor is a rumor, no matter its source. In fact,Keaton himself has continually been coy about his potential Batman cameo, leading many fans to temper their expectations. Even if such things turn out to be true, there’s always the possibility of unexpected changes. For instance, even though Ray Fisher, who played the character Cyborg inJustice League, had previously been offered a cameo inThe Flash, his recent declaration thathe refuses to work on any DC films with its current bosshas effectively dashed that idea.
Still, there’s nothing wrong with a little optimism. All signs point to most of these rumors being true to a reasonable degree, so fans can likely afford to get a little excited. Besides, filming hasn’t even started yet, so there’s plenty of time for speculation. Here’s hoping things go smoothly once it begins.
