Next weekThe Game Awardsreturns for its 2019 iteration, featuring accolades for the year’s best as well as new game announcements. It’s the last gasp of the year, before the video game industry calms down for the December holidays, but Geoff Keighley and crew are certain to make the most of it. As an example of whatThe Game Awards 2019has in store, Keighley has created a new “hype trailer” for the show.
The Game Awards 2019 hype trailer features a montage of clips taken from various video game cinematic cutscenes or trailers. But many of the trailers aren’t for games released in 2019, with clips from theDiablo 4announcement trailerandWorld of Warcraft’s next expansion teaser also featured. According to Keighley the trailer was made with the intention to help get him in the mood for The Game Awards 2019.

Keighley also clarifies that while the video does feature clips from games that haven’t been released yet, the trailer is not intended to tease anything. The Game Awards 2019 will feature10 new video game reveals, but excited viewers will have to wait just a while longer to learn The Game Awards 2019’s secrets. This trailer is simply there to build up some excitement and remind everyone that the show is nearing.
That doesn’t mean that Geoff Keighley and The Game Awards haven’t teased some announcements for the event, however. Two games have already been confirmed for the show. The first is from new studio WolfEye, which is led by ex-leaders of Arkane Studios. The second game comes fromLeague of Legendsdeveloper Riot’s new publishing arm. It’s a third-party title from an unknown studio, but it’sset in theLeague of Legendsuniverse.
Expect this new trailer to mark the start of The Game Awards' build-up to its Thursday show. Geoff Keighley loves to put together montage trailers that help build up hype for certain nominees, plus he always does a range of behind the scenes videos calling attention to various aspects of the show. While The Game Awards 2019 may be sharing next week withPlayStation’s State of Play, Keighley is still going to treat his show like it’s the best way for video game fans to wrap up and celebrate this year in gaming.
