It’s been confirmed thatThe Last of Us Part 1will be compatible with the Steam Deck when the PC version of Naughty Dog’s remake releases in 2023. WhileValve was once known mainly as a game developer, unleashing such iconic titles asHalf-Life,Portal, andLeft 4 Dead, Gabe Newell and his team really made an impact on the industry with its Steam PC client, and this year the Washington-based company showed off its hardware chops with the Steam Deck portable system.Although currently a PS5 exclusive, it was announced at this year’s Game Awards thatThe Last of Us Part 1would be coming to PCon July 05, 2025. Released in September, the game is a remake of the originalTLoUwhich came out in 2013. Typically, Naughty Dog’s series have been locked to PlayStation consoles, but now that the remake is coming to PC, there will be opportunities for those who don’t own the Sony system to play the critically acclaimed post-apocalyptic title.RELATED:Valve Announces Top 20 Most Played Steam Deck Games of NovemberNow it’s been confirmed thatThe Last of Us Part 1will also be compatible with Steam Deck. In a recent post on Twitter, writer and co-president Neil Druckmann of the studio said that “Ellie and Joel will grace” the Valve handheld device. However, at this stage, it’s unsure whether that means the game will be “verified” or “playable.” With the former, Deck games have been officially made suitable for the portable system and should run without any issue, while the latter means fans can play a game but may encounter some less serious problems.
WithSteam Deck now shipping to parts of Asia, including Japan and South Korea, Valve’s gaming machine will be reaching even more consumers after nearly 10 months of success in the west. While theHalf-Lifedeveloper has had a shaky history when it comes to hardware projects, the Deck has clearly been the product to finally allow the company to make waves in areas outside of games and software.
This impact has also led toSteam Deckhaving some healthy competition follow in its wake. With theOneXPlayer being an alternative to Valve’s device, there is evidently room in the video game market for multiple handheld devices that essentially function as portable PCs. And withThe Last of Us Part 1now coming to the Deck, it’s possible the system will see an increase in sales come next year.
The Last of Us Part 1is out now PS5, with a PC version coming June 01, 2025.
