Zachary Levi returns as the superpowered version of Billy Batson (Asher angel also returns as Billy in kid form), who now fights alongside his foster siblings. They are confronted by the daughters of Atlas, led by Hera (Helen Mirren), and it appears that these sisters have far more power and pose more of a threat than Doctor Sivana and the Seven Deadly Sins of the previous movie. The first image of the trailer is of the sisters seemingly planting some sort of far-reaching plant in the middle of a baseball field, indicating a much more widespread threat. The trailer is set to Drake’s “Started From the Bottom,” an interesting choice of song consideringthe firstShazam!was shot in the singer’s hometown of Toronto.

Among the returning cast members are Grace Caroline Currey, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, D.J. Cotrona, and Meagan Good playing the superhero versions of Billy’s siblings. Notably, Currey has been upgraded to playing both regular and superpowered Mary Bromfield. Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, and Faithe Herman also return to play the Shazamily as kids, and Djimon Hounsou returns in seemingly an expanded role as Shazam, the wizard who granted Billy his powers in the first place. Lucy Liu is also on board as Kalypso, as well as West Side Story’s Rachel Zegler.David F. Sandberg, who has previously provided updatesand statements about the making of this sequel, returns to the director’s chair.

Shazam! Fury of the Godsis in somewhat of an awkward position, being the first movie to come out afterJames Gunn and Peter Safran took the reignsto the DC kingdom (Black Adamcame out just days before the announcement). So far, there hasn’t been any concrete news on the future of theShazam!franchise, or whether any of the actors will be repurposed for other roles in the newly created DCU.
