The Dragonflights of Azeroth have returned toWorld of Warcraftwith the latest expansion, and they are kind of in shambles. The Aspects have all lost their powers due to the events ofCataclysm, and many of the flights are without leaders. It is up to the players and the surviving dragons to bring the flights back to their former glory, and help safeguard Azeroth against anyone that wants to do it harm. This story forms the backbone ofWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflight, and it has been pretty interesting so far.
One of the major plot points ofWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflightsurrounds the question ofwho will become the next Green Dragon Aspect. The former Aspect Ysera was killed duringLegion, and the Green dragonflight has not had an Aspect since. Instead, it has been led by Ysera’s daughter Merithra. She has helped protect it against all sorts of dangers, and she seems poised to take up the mantle by the end of the expansion. However, many players may not know who this powerful green dragon is and what makes her the rightful heir to the title.

Who is Merithra?
Merithra is the daughter of the last green Dragon Aspect Ysera. After Ysera perished inWorld of Warcraft: Legion, Merithra chose to step up and take charge asthe new representative of the Green dragonflight. She would help spearhead a mission to save the Emerald Dream from the void and would go on to lead the flight in reclaiming their ancestral homeland. She would help defend the Emerald Dream from the Primalists and was instrumental in empowering the Emerald Oathstone so that her flight can have a future.
BeforeDragonflight, Merithra was not a majorWorld of Warcraftcharacter, but she still played her part. She apparently helped leadthe Green dragonflight on the Ohn’ahran Plainsduring the War of the Ancients, and she helped forge a pact between the flight and the centaurs that lived there. She also helped push the Qiraji back during the War of the Shifting Sands, and would help the player empower the Heart of Azeroth duringBattle for Azeroth. She has aided the mortals and her flight from the background for centuries, but now she may be representing them in a much larger way.
Merithra’s Future as the Green Dragon Aspect
Ysera has been the Green Dragon Aspect forever, but players were forced to kill her inLegionto free her from the Emerald Nightmare’s corruption. The future of the green Dragonflight was in flux as no one quite knew who would take charge, and that has not changed inDragonflight. While it seems like Blizzard is setting up Merithra to become the new Green Dragon Aspect, there are also rumors that the studio may have plans to revive Ysera so soon after her soul was bound to Ardenweald inShadowlands. Just like with theBlack dragonflight, the role of Green Dragon Aspect is still a mysteryand will probably be a major plot point throughout the expansion.
Merithra seems like she would be a pretty great green Dragon Aspect as she has been leading and protecting the Green dragonflight ever since Ysera perished. She has defended life and the Emerald Dream, and has renewed the green flight’s pact with the centaurs. She has also helped safeguardthe future of the Night Elvesand the seed for the new world tree; The Sisters' Tear. Merithra has pretty much become the Green Dragon Aspect in all but name, but time will tell if she will ever formally be given the title.
