World of Warcraft: Dragonflightis launching in just a few hours from now, and amidst all that inevitable chaos of release day, there is one important thing that players should keep an eye out for: dragonriding glyphs. Dragonriding inDragonflightrepresents an evolution of the flying mounts that originally graced the skies of Outland inThe Burning Crusade. It borrows a few concepts from themount system inGuild Wars 2, and introduces a truly modern feel to soaring across the Dragon Isles in a way that hasn’t yet been done inWorld of Warcraft.
Much like thetalent system inDragonflight, dragonriding comes with its own progression system too, and it’s tied to dragonriding glyphs that are scattered across the Dragon Isles for players to find. Given Blizzard’s approach in makingDragonflightalt-friendly compared to past expansions likeShadowlandsandBattle for Azeroth, these glyphs are tied to a player’s account rather than a character, meaning that any alt who enters the Dragon Isles will have the benefit of potentially having all 48 dragonriding glyphs from the get-go.

AWorld of Warcraftplayer called Arhqirah made a comprehensive guide on where to find these dragonriding glyphs, and posted a video and instructions on the official subreddit for the game. Every single zone in the Dragon Isles has twelve glyphs in total that players have to collect, rewarding achievements and dragonriding points, effectively taking on a role similar to theWarlords of Draenortreasures.
Investing in dragonriding allows players to increase their energy pool when mounted, or providing them a damage bonus after crashlanding. Players unlock the feature simply by playing through the content, and over the course of theirDragonflightleveling experience, they’ll be able to get their hands on four unique dragons that reflect all the draconic archetypes of Azeroth: the proto-dragon, the drake, the wyvern, and the pterrordax. An important omission seems to be the Pandaria serpent, which has been found in the game’s files, but the means of obtaining it is unknown for now.
Players will be able to customize all four of these baseline dragonridingmounts inDragonflight, from scale color to armor to even individual horn and tail shapes. The cosmetics remain locked behind progression, with many options requiring players to engage with all the different reputation factions found on the Dragon Isles. Perhaps the most exciting feature of the upcoming expansion, dragonriding has the potential to change the way mounts work not just inDragonflight, but for all the expansions to come.
