One of the most recognizable Christmas songs has been given aSplatooncover by a fan of Nintendo’s ink-covered third-person shooter. TheSplatoonseries is known for its varied soundtrack, which covers a large variety of styles and genres.
TheSplatoonseries' cast of characters largely consists of musicians who act as members of bands in the game world. This is best exemplified by the idols of each game in the series, consisting of the Squid Sisters inSplatoon, Off the Hook inSplatoon 2, and Deep Cut inSplatoon 3. Each of these bands also serves as the announcers for their respective title and will perform in-gameconcerts during Splatfestswhile representing their teams. Although the idols are the most predominant bands in each game, there are songs from other in-game bands, such as the rock songPaintscraperperformed by the band C-Side which can be heard during multiplayer matches.

One of these in-game bands is known as Chirpy Chips, best known for having its vocalist Harmony also serve as the vendor at the general store Hotlantis, where players receive theirSplatoon 3catalog rewards. YouTuber Moola made a cover of the classic Mariah Carey song “All I Want for Christmas Is You” in the style of Chirpy Chips. This cover comes complete with chip tunes, distorted guitars, and Harmony’s altered vocals, all of which are trademarks of Chirpy Chips songs. It is accompanied by album art drawn by an artist known as DeadLineSMB_Art on Twitter.
ManySplatoon 3players were hoping that a winter-themed event would be announced as part of the game’s Chill Season 2022, particularly afterSplatoon 2’s Splatoweenevent did not return for the Halloween season. That hasn’t stopped fans from creating their own takes on what seasonalSplatoon 3events would look or sound like. Fans have also made it clear that they would like to hear more from the other bands present in the game rather than just hearing from the idols.
Similar to other Nintendo franchises such asThe Legend of ZeldaandAnimal Crossing, Splatoon’s slew of music has become a defining element of the series. Fans have even been treated toSplatoonlive concertsfeaturing the games' idols performing fan-favorite songs. So far, these concerts have only been hosted in Japan, but the strong success of theSplatoongames shows that there is a definite audience forSplatoonconcerts outside of Japan.Splatoon 3continues to do incredibly well, but fans outside of Japan will have to wait to see if Nintendo will capitalize on that success by giving fans what they want.
