But Patricia Summersett, who unknowingly auditioned for the role of Zelda nearly a decade ago, was unsure if she would reprise the role. Summersett spoke to IGNabout her work onBreath of the Wild, which she initially believed to be just another RPG fantasy before learning that it was none other thanThe Legend of Zeldaitself. She spoke about how voice actors can never count on a sequel happening, never mind being asked to reprise a role. This is especially true considering how Nintendo has treatedThe Legend of Zelda, opting to reinvent what the franchise can be rather than commit to a direct sequel.
However,Tears of the Kingdomis a direct sequel toBreath of the Wild. Fans were concerned thatreusingBreath of the Wild’s mapwould detract from the joy of exploration that made the original so compelling. Nintendo was stuck between a rock and a hard place when it came to marketing whyTears of the Kingdomis a worthy sequel, no doubt wanting to excite fans but also allow them to discover every addition for themselves.
The third official trailer forTears of the Kingdomput many of these fears to bed across its impressive four-minute runtime. It showed off much of what Nintendo had been understandably wary to reveal and featured a saxophone that had fans begging for an instrumental version. Despite overzealous copyright enforcement and worries about performance on an aging piece of hardware, alleviated somewhat by a Day One patch,Tears of the Kingdomis set to be nothing but a resounding success that will leave its mark on the industry likeBreath of the Wildbefore it.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomis available now for Nintendo Switch.
